Sage is the first character Young encounters in Anodyne. He is said to be the "oldest and wisest person in the village", but a statue nearby calls this into question. Sage gives Young the quest to defeat "The Evil" that is endangering "The Land", in typical RPG fashion. Amusingly, Sage will become angry if Young continually pesters him instead of following directions.
Strangely, Sage is always encountered with the mysterious statues, usually with some sagely advice for Young.
